Portsmouth Fairy Tales for Grown-Ups features 25 tales contributed by 11 of Portsmouth’s top writing talents, and was launched at the start of Portsmouth Bookfest on 23rd October 2014.

The collection of short stories was published by Life Is Amazing, the publishing house of Portsmouth writer Matt Wingett.

“Although it’s called Portsmouth Fairy Tales for Grown Ups, it’s not a book about princesses or Disney tales,” Matt Wingett said. “All the writers are established authors, many internationally-published and their interests and specialisms shine through.”

With grisly tales of crime and cheery fantasy stories, and heart-rending memoirs to bizarre comedies, each of the book’s contributing writers gave their own perception of what a fairy tale is through their writing.

Whether centred around drunks, devil worshippers, mysterious time agents, or missing girls, each short story keeps Portsmouth at its heart.

“It’s great to see a book so well received and sell out so quickly,” Matt added. “The great news is, there are still some copies in at Waterstones, Commercial Road, and Blackwell’s bookshop – and we’re expecting more from the printer soon.”
